Genetic Testing

A great place to start. Here’s why!

Understanding your genetic profile for cardiovascular risk allows for a precision-based treatment program, specific to your individual needs. More than 50% of Americans carry one or more gene variants that dramatically increase risk for heart attacks and strokes. It is important to know your genetic profile so your treatment program can be specific to your needs. It just might save your life! This comprehensive lab panel will test for (5) key variants. These are identified and explained below.

How do I prepare for the sample collection?2020-08-26T11:58:04+00:00

Prior to Collection:

Please be well hydrated and warm up your fingers. Generally, running hands under warm water will help with blood flow in the hands; also moving around for about five minutes prior to the draw. The ring finger is a great finger to pull the collection from as it is generally not as calloused as the rest of the fingers. This is important because for some people, if they are slightly dehydrated, cold, or anxious they can have a hard time producing a sample.

Collecting the Sample:

The lancet should be firmly pressed into the middle-side of the finger. Not in the middle, due to the nerves there and not too close to the side because it’s more difficult to produce the amount of blood required there. Please see the picture below. Ideally, avoid choosing a spot that is either too close to the tip of the finger or are too close to the side. If possible, avoid squeezing your finger to get the drops required as that can affect the blood sample. If you have to squeeze the finger to get the collection started, it should be just above the knuckle.

Can I order the kit early and just wait to do it when my labs are due?2020-08-26T12:03:12+00:00

Yes. The kit itself is good for 6 months, so you can order it early but you should use it within that time frame.

Once drawn, the sample is temperature stable for 14 days, but we recommend you draw your sample and return in mail on the same day.

How should I ship this if it’s hot outside?2020-08-26T12:03:32+00:00

We have tested our sample stability to 110 degrees Fahrenheit with no degradation. We would recommend you drop your package off to the brick and mortar USPS location instead of a blue box if the temperature that day is over 90 degrees.

Can I ship this in the cold?2020-08-26T12:03:54+00:00

Yes, we have designed multilayer packaging and our collection devices help the sample remain stable at ambient temperatures for up to 14 days. We also inspect the sample to make sure it’s fine before testing to ensure accurate results.
